The Troika lecture series commenced on 19th November with internationally renowned Peter Kennard and Cat Phillips discussing their collaboration on art and activism.
Peter and Cat began working together in 2002 in order to produce art in response to the invasion of Iraq. Their collaborative projects known as kennardphillips use a variety of media and interventions to engage with politics and to encourage and provoke social change. Made as a critical tool the work seeks to become the visual arm of protest, connecting international movements for social and political change. Actively encouraging groups to use the images as part of their own activism, Peter and Cat raise questions about whether or not art can work across all display mediums, from the street, newspaper, political propaganda to the gallery wall and ask what is the relationship between art and politics?
